Description
This is a Kansas City Southern Lines Route of the Southern Belle 12” x 7 1/2” Railroad year calendar with the complete years' daily tear-off pad. The daily tear-off pad (1 1/4" thick) is still tied in string as originally distributed. The year cannot be determined without compromising the original string tie. The year is under the metal attachment plate. However, by peeking under the “Season's Greetings” cover page, one can see that the first day of that year was a Tuesday. Since the Southern Belle ran from 1940 to 1965, and since the 1st
day of January was a Tuesday, this calendar can be from 1946, 1952, 1957, or 1963. The best guess is 1952.
As can be seen in the photo, there are holes in each corner, so it was probably attached to a wall at sometime. There are scratch marks on the front, especially along the right side. The daily pad string has slightly worn into the daily tear-off pad (which is 1 ½ inches thick). The lower right had corner front of the calendar navy blue cardboard backing is cracked, but the crack does not extend all the way to the back side .
This calendar was printed by Columbia Art Works Inc. of Milwaukee, which is still in business.
