Description
The Missouri Pacific Railroad, also known as the MoPac and the MP, was a major US carrier in the mid-western states. Most surviving trackage is now a part of the Union Pacific. For auction is a hard-to-find pocket calendar from the MoPac for the year 1954. The front side has a rendering of two MoPac engines and a daily calendar for each month of the year. The
Missouri Pacific Railroad
, also known as the
MoPac and the MP
, was a
major US carrier in the mid-western states
. The product of many mergers, the MoPac traces its roots to 1851. The MoPac operated independently until it was acquired by the Union Pacific (UP) in 1997, and most
surviving MoPac trackage is now a part of the UP
. At its peak, the MoPac served ten states (Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas).
The MoPac
operated a number of famous "named" trains
; in the steam liner era, these were
known as "eagles"
and included the
Missouri River Eagle
, the
Delta Eagle
, the
Valley Eagle
, and the
Texas Eagle
. The
Texas Eagle
was the most prominent of these, operated in conjunction with the Katy Railroad, between St. Louis and El Paso. The MoPac also
operated trains between St. Louis and California with the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad and the Western Pacific Railroad and into Mexico with the National Railway of Mexico
